Many readers enjoy Star Wars-esque stories of conflict on faraway planets, while other readers tend to stick to epic romances. Few authors have managed to combine the two genres in such a seamless way as Jessica A. Kong has in her Sea-anan Saga. She has created a highly complex story with fully developed characters, and the themes explored here are inarguably adult, yet the reading level required is no more than eighth grade. A Forgotten Kitten zips along at just the right pace, allowing the reader to digest the complexity of the plot and interrelation between the characters without having to think too hard. The story revolves around Sev, a young, handsome prince and member of a royal family who rises to become king of the Oceanan race. Sev is raised in the midst of a vicious family feud, but all seems worth it when his adoptive aunt gives birth to a beautiful little girl whom Sev falls instantly and irrevocably in love with. But when Sev’s planet collides with its own sun and collapses, he must bear the loss of his entire family, including his love as well as any memory of her. Areo, the heroine of the story, is that little girl that Sev fell for during his childhood. She is a human-feline hybrid who has grown to hate the royal family that her soul mate hails from. She undergoes a destructive event and space travel episode similar to Sev’s, and it is not too long before she has settled her new planet and with her fellow half-bloods, created a strong, thriving society. When she is brutally attacked by Daehog, everyone in her empire is scattered throughout the universe. Where does she land but the planet that Sev is currently occupying. What follows is a continually building conflict interlaced with one of the most fervently passionate love stories seen in these kinds of novels. Kong chooses not just to write about space travel, or war, or love, or family, or even racism; instead, she chooses to combine all of these classic literary themes into one amazing story. The result is a mysterious and ultimately deeply satisfying story that only leads to the craving for more from this gifted and astoundingly creative writer. Reading should always be enjoyable, especially when reading escapist literature, and Kong has remembered this and accomplished it without sacrificing plot or characterization. The task of any science fiction writer is to take alien, unbelievable concepts and present them in a way that convinces the reader they are plausible in reality, and Kong has certainly hit the mark with her second novel in this delightfully mystifying series.

Typically I don't read this type of book on a regular basis. I will make it short and sweet, I loved it when I didn't think I would. Rarely does an author have the talent to mix popular cultures together and make it work. Jessica Kong did just that in my opinion. Having been a fan of the Thundercats when my children were little, I felt that this was the perfect maturing of them in a Star Wars esque fantasy. I highly recommend it for fantasy and sci-fi readersProduct details

A Forgotten Kitten Seaanan Saga Book 2 eBook Jessica A Kong Reviews
A Forgotten Kitten by Jessica Kong is the futuristic fantasy in another galaxy where human-minded cats rule on the planet Oceania. Feline and king, Sev must maintain traditional ways in order to promote peace. He’s both fascinated and troubled with his dream lover; every night when he falls asleep he kisses her. During Sev’s waking hours, he longs to smell her sweet scent. She’s a “different” female whom he must possess. He worries when his dream lover is covered with blood.
Areo McCloud is a starfighter, as are her siblings. Thrust into hostilities only she and three brothers out of seven hundred are alive, but she is bleeding. Praying to her god, Onssa, she bores up to the pain and dodges enemy fire. It isn’t long before she’s lost. Areo will be forgotten when her hybrid species of mixed cat and human disappears. Areo sends out a mayday call.
Fearing for his sanity, Sev stresses over the troubled image of his dream lover. Rushing into his castle weapons room, he employs the magical Sword of Power. Her ship drifts into Oceania’s atmosphere. After his rescue ship locks with hers, he uses the Sword of Power to help her heal. Area, in a month-long coma, possesses no feline features. In love with Areo, Sev finds himself torn between two loyalties. Embroiled in a family feud, he’s always believed a king should maintain the pure blood line?
Areo is special. With the help of Goddess Onssa, she wants to facilitate communication and pave the way for peace. Not only that, Sev met her when they were children. According to his adoptive aunt, Areo is a human-hybrid who fears Sev’s royal family. Will these star-crossed lovers ever meet halfway?
Fantasy author Jessica Kong’s heroine is a peacemaker. I highly recommend A Forgotten Kitten to fans of Star Wars and Avatar. Sensual feelings between Sev and Areo make this book new adult rather than young adult.
There are so many reasons not to like this story. Let me start with the most glaring. The world creation utterly blows. I mean, it sucks moose balls. This review is full of spoilers, but I think you will want to read them so you know what to expect if you read this book.
This is a love story. The Hero was only two years old when he declared his undying love for the infant heroine. (I know, that's a little annoying, but really nothing compared when with the rest of the annoying aspects of this book.) This meeting occurs while the King of the world happens to be stopping by the heroine's house "on business." Oh, did I mention that the King banished the heroine's parents, stripped them of their titles and all of the their property, and is now "visiting" them (with his young son our Hero), in their squalid shack for no apparent reason. Is this believable? I say it is not.
When the heroine is nine, and the Hero is eleven, their world is destroyed, and they are sent off in separate directions only to meet up years later. Luckily the nine and eleven year olds were able to begin sexual exploration before they were separated. Ewwww! Really? The only thing we know about the maturation rate of this species is that they reach adult status at 15. So, still, nine years old is just gross.
When the Hero and Heroine meet up again eleven years later, we find that the Hero spent 8 years in cold sleep and has only been awake for the past three years. So, by my calculations, that makes him around 14. Now he is the King - - of seven people, as far as I can tell. We are told that there are others on the "new" planet, but we never meet them, and the only thing we know about them is that they don't seem to feel compelled to report anything to king, and they are not included in any of his counsel. The "others" also apparently live nowhere near the castle, which, although huge, is only populated by the same seven people (no guards, kitchen workers, maids - - nobody).
The new King acts like a five year old whose regents are letting him pretend he has some authority. The Hero yells and acts like a child throwing a tantrum, and then the people he supposedly rules ignore everything he wants them to do. It's really ridiculous. In one instance the King has a meeting with his seven subjects to tell them he wants to go to war. They pretty much overrule him. In a huff the King abdicates and takes off for the stars. Later, his seven subjects join him. But seriously, there is an intergalactic war going on, and this King is jumping in to fight with seven other people (five, if you exclude the two women in the group who seem to serve no purpose at all).
Perhaps the worst part is the "I love you, but I can't be with you" part of the story. Apparently, there is a law that says these aliens can only interbreed. They must be kept pure. This is why the heroine's parents were banished - one of them was human. And, you guessed it, the King is prohibited from being with his one true love because she is a half breed. Oh, and apparently this law is irrevocable. It cannot be changed. The species might be going extinct, and they are helpless to do anything to escape the impact of this stupid law. That makes sense, right? Everyone has laws that can never be changed - - - even by the King.
When it appears that the couple will overcome this obstacle, the other shoe drops. Somebody drags out a dusty ancient text that tells of one instance were somebody mated with an outsider, and the bloody race war that ensued nearly destroyed that entire species. Having read this old book, now the lovers know they can really never be together. Really? Again, I say, "Really?" As far as hurdles that separate lovers in romance books, I have to say, these are among the worst I have ever had the misfortune to read about. Lame hardly begins to describe how pitiful this whole storyline is.
I'm not really sure how anybody could think this book was worth reading. Trust me. It's a must miss.
It was amazing and intriguing. Can't wait for the next one of her books to come out. I would recommend this to anyone.
I really enjoyed this book. I also read the other book in the Saga and am looking forward to the next one. It has been a long time since I picked up any sci fi story and bot the books rekindled my interest.
This is every bit the sequel to Lost Kitten anyone could hope for. Jessica Kong delivers in the same vein - big epic romance in a space setting that takes me to Farscape and Firefly with a universe as broad as the Star Wars saga. I'm not a romance reader at all, and did tend to speed up my reading over the romance stuff to tell you the truth!
Forgotten Kitten is very easy to read - which takes real ability from the writer. In fact, Jessica has grown as a writer since her first book, as you would expect, and Forgotten Kitten is written with experienced skill, evidenced in the story plotting and characters. Her Imaginative detail remains as keen as ever.
I read this on ebook and I was struck with the care in which it was laid out.
